The top high school soccer players from across state will gather in Waukee on June 18th for the annual “Iowa Soccer Showcase”. Hosted by the Des Moines Menace, the event will include the East-West All-Star girls match followed by the boys match. Menace general manager Al Oatsvall says each year the talent level in Iowa grows. “That’s the reason that we’re so excited to host this event is because the talent pool within Iowa has grown such that some of these individuals go on to play college soccer and we look to get a look at these individuals as well during this event for future PDL player spots,” Oatsvall says. The event will be capped off when the Des Moines Menace play a Latino Select squad which Oatsvall says will be made-up of Iowa players. ‘Rather than brininging a team up from Mexico or a team from Italy, I looked at it earlier this spring and I said ‘We’ve got a lot of talent right here,'” Oatsvall says. He says the club enjoys hosting events like this because they want to play a large role in the development of new talent. All the matches will be held at Waukee High School Stadium.
