Maybe they should call it “Gator Lake.” It appears that a “small” alligator may be on the loose in Western Iowa’s Carter Lake. According to a report in The Daily Nonpareil On-line, a Nebraska couple claims they saw a three-and a-half foot reptile that appears to be an alligator. The creature was spotted in the water, and sunning itself on one of the lakes’ boat docks, over the Memorial Day weekend. As proof of their sighting, Kevin and Sue Moffitt, of Millard, Nebraska took a series of pictures and showed them to officials at various agencies, including the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, and the Carter Lake Police Department, where the pictures were at first, met with skepticism. Still, authorities conducted a shoreline search, but found no trace of the reptile , which experts say is an American Alligator. That particular species that can grow to be 15-feet long, and weigh as much as 700-pounds.
