A Plymouth County grand jury today (Thursday) indicted a rural LeMars man in the death of a jogger in May of last year. 37-year-old Richard Heien is charged with motor vehicle homicide, involuntary manslaughter, and leaving the scene of a personal-injury accident. The indictment alleges Heien unintentionally caused the death of 39-year-old Joan Wilson, when he hit her with his pickup truck. Wilson was jogging on a county road northwest of LeMars. The indictment also accused Heien of driving while he was under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, or both. A judge set a June 27th court date. Heien had been charged with motor vehicle homicide by the sheriff’s office, but that charge was dismissed about a year ago, when the county asked to have more time for an investigation.
