Underwood man caught after police chase

A police chase that began early this morning (Monday) in western Iowa’s Cass County came to a grinding halt in Council Bluffs. Police in Atlantic tried to stop 37-year-old Mark Fredericksen, of Underwood, at around one o’clock this morning, after it was determined a warrant had been issued for his arrest. Fredericksen took off and led officers on a chase up to and along Interstate 80 towards Omaha. Sheriff’s Deputies from Shelby and Pottawattamie County tried twice to lay down stop sticks in an attempt to puncture the vehicle’s tires, but each time he evaded them. Fredericksen made it to Council Bluffs, where he was met by over a dozen squad cars from the police department, and three sets of spike strips that proved to be too much for the man’s car. The chase ended in the parking lot of a K-Mart, where Fredericksen surrendering peaceably. A 13-year old boy riding with him was shaken but otherwise uninjured. Fredericksen faces numerous traffic charges and was expected to be brought back to Cass County for processing later today.
