Denver’s Keith Worner has settled on a college and a sport. Worner announced today he will play basketball at Drake. The 6-6 Worner averaged 16 points and nearly seven-and-a-half rebounds for Denver High School during his junior season in which the Cyclones posted a 16-7 record. Worner is a multi-sport athlete. He was an all district performer in football, finished fifth at the state track meet in the high jump and is a standout pitcher on Denver’s baseball team which is ranked fourth in class 2A. Worner says his most difficult decision was choosing a sport to pursue in college. He says he felt comfortable at Drake and everything fit well.

Worner is also a standout in the classroom with a four-point-oh grade point average and says that also factored into his decision. He says his family has encouraged him to go to college, and he says the chances are he’s not going to become a pro, so he says his Drake degree will become important.

Worner says the full court pressure Drake uses under coach Tom Davis is similar to the style he plays in high school. He says they trap a lot full court and run the fast break and he says it plays to his advantage. Having played four sports in high school Worner says he is looking forward to the opportunity to concentrate on basketball. He says he hasn’t had much time to focus in on basketball, as he says it’s hard when you’re playing other sports. Worner says he thinks he can improve a great deal more by concentrating on one area.Worner will be able to sign with Drake this fall.
