A California organization devoted to helping solve missing-persons cases has offered a $5000 reward to anyone who can help authorities make an arrest in the Evelyn Miller case. Floyd County Attorney Marilyn Dettmer says it’s an important resource that’s been provided. Dettmer says the the reward comes from the Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation which was set up after the disappearance of three women in February 1999 who were later found murdered near Yosemite National Park. Dettmer, reading a statement from the foundation’s executive director, says the foundation has set up similar awards around the nation that have led authorities to solving a case. The foundation’s reward money has assisted in the arrests of 26 murder suspects and helped locate six missing persons. There are suspects in custody in five states, thanks to the reward fund. Dettmer says that reward fund has led to eight murderers and a child molester being convicted or pleading guilty as charged. To date, the fund’s paid more than $165,000 in rewards to citizens who “did the right thing” and came forward to offer information that helped solve cases. “We all have a responsibility to do our part, to help make our community a safe place,” Detmer says. Anyone with information on the Miller case is asked to call the Floyd County sheriff’s office at (641)228-1821. Dettmer says she knows everybody wants immediate answers about the investigation into Miller’s death. “But I also know that everyone wants justice to be served,” she adds. Dettmer says her priority has to be to protect the integrity of the investigation, “And that means that many details cannot be released at this time,” she says. A funeral for Evelyn Miller at the Congregational Church in Charles City starts today (Thursday) at 11 o’clock.
