The National Weather Service says it’s going to be a scorcher of a weekend.
The normal high for this time of year averages around 87 degrees, but the forecast is calling for highs in the low to upper 90’s throughout the weekend. Roger Vachalek of the National Weather Service says you can add heat indices that’ll be at 100 and above. He says the heat index is a combination of the amount of moisture in the air and the actual air temperature. Vachalek says more humidity in the air makes it tougher for the body to cool itself by evaporating sweat into the air and that puts a greater stress on the body.

He says you should pay close attention when the heat index hits triple digits. He says during times of high heat indices, people are urged to take caution. If you’re outdoors, take breaks, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. Vachalek says unless something changes, you’ll need to keep an eye on the heat index through the weekend. He says the two hottest days should be Sunday and Monday, with the heat indices hitting 105 on Saturday.

Vachalek says thunderstorms and rains could cool things down, but the prospects aren’t good for a few days. There’s a slight chance for a thunderstorm tonight and tomorrow morning, but the best chance for some thunderstorms is late Monday and into Tuesday. He says things should then cool back down.
