A semi driver from Iowa died this morning in an accident on I-80 near Council Bluffs. Police had to round up cattle that got out and were running loose after the crash. Council Bluffs police sergeant Bob Brietzke says the accident happened around six o’clock this morning — but it’s not totally clear what caused it.He says speed was definitely a factor in the wreck according to witnesses. The truck went out of control, through a guard rail, and off an overpass to the roadway below. Brietzke says the driver was thrown from the cab of the truck which became separated from the trailer. The driver was pronounced dead at a local hospital. His name is not yet being released. Brietzke says some 35 head of cattle had to be rounded up and some did not survive. He says they had to “put down” around 11 of them because of injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
