One person was reportedly killed in the storms that moved through northwest Iowa on Sunday night. As the annual bicycle ride RAGBRAI moves from Sheldon to Estherville today, one person is dead after storms hit Sheldon overnight. The Sheldon police department reports that there was a reported fatality in Sheldon, no additional information is being released at this time until proper notifications have taken place and further investigation. Storms moved through Lyon, Sioux, O’Brien, and Osceola counties after midnight. In Sheldon there were strong winds, heavy rain, and many trees and branches are reported down. There was also some extensive property damage. The storm packed wind gusts that exceeded 70 miles-an-hour. Many of the bikers were evacuated to the school facilities in the main campground area during the storms. once the storms passed, bikers were released to their camp sites and continued on to Estherville this morning.
