A federal judge has ruled the Union Pacific Railroad discriminated against women. Women who worked for the nation’s largest railroad say it’s not fair their health insurance covers the cost of having a baby but not birth control. They filed a class-action lawsuit saying it’s discrimination because the law prevents Union Pacific from making decisions based on gender or pregnancy. Planned Parenthood helped the women pursue their case and Monday a federal judge said U-P discriminated by providing a range of preventive health benefits, but no contraceptive care.
