A standout final four will compete for a spot in Saturday’s championship game during tonight’s 2A semifinals at the state baseball tournament. The teams that are remaining have a combined record of 130 victories and just 12 defeats . Top rated Wilton is 40-0 and will need to get past 31-5 North Polk to reach the title game. Ninth-rated Cherokee will take on second ranked Carroll Kuemper. Wilton catcher Jeremy Weih says they aren’t worried about the win streak, he says they really don’t talk about it much, they just like to win.Cherokee is 25-4 and opened the tournament with a victory over Mason City Newman. A member of the Lakes Conference, the Braves have won 14 straight games.Braves coach Andy VanFossen says they’re low in the conference with nine schools and several of them being 2-A. He says they gain confidence by playing a lot of 2-A schools. Cherokee leading hitter Nate Gomez says the tough competition in the Lakes Conference prepares them for the post-season. He says the pitching they see in the conference has been better than what they’ve seen in the tournament.Kuemper is 34-3 after beating East Marshall in a game that began Monday night and was completed on Wednesday morning.
