Lansing Kee High will get a chance to make history on Saturday. The top rated Hawks will try to become the first school to win nine state titles after they advanced to the 1A championship game with an 8-0 victory over North Mahaska. Gabe Schultz had a two run double in the bottom of the second as Kee jumped out to a 3-0 victory and is old enough to remember the celebration that followed the school’s last championship in 1992. He says a bus comes in about seven miles out of town the fans all get behind it and honk their horns on the way into town. Schultz says it’s “awesome.”The Hawks have been second four times since their last title and coach Gene Schultz says it seems like a long drought. He says that’s a long time, but he says they’ve been trying. North Mahaska closes out the season with a record of 23-6.Warhawks coach Kevin Kelderman says they have nothing to hang their heads about as they lost to a better team. Kelderman says he hopes his team learns from the experience.
