Iowans will have -two- women to cheer for in tonight’s (Thursday) finals of the Mrs. United States Pageant. Michelle Anderson, an elementary school teacher from West Des Moines, is Mrs. Iowa (shown in photo above), and Denison native Christie Shook-Adams is Mrs. Colorado, where she now resides. Shook-Adams is no stranger to such competitions. She’s been involved with the Miss Rodeo Iowa Pageant in the past and decided to give the Mrs. United States contest a try. Shook-Adams says the pageant is relatively traditional in its content. There’s judging in three categories — evening wear, swimsuit and an interview. One of the primary requirements for being a contestant is, of course, that she be married. Shook-Adams talks a little about her married life. Her husband is a native of Alaska and they met in Colorado. They own two stores, one for chocolate, another for furniture. They have a one-year-old son named Talon. Shook-Adams says she looks forward to the many unique opportunities that lie ahead for her as Mrs. Colorado during the coming year, including over 185 appearances. The finals in the national competition are being held tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada.
