They’re called the Flying Farmers and they’re converging on the Quad Cities this week. The aviation enthusiasts from all over the globe are holding their annual convention in Davenport. Incoming president Ray Johannes of Ohio says delegates are still winging in this afternoon attend meetings and seminars. Some 15 airplanes flew in Monday to the Davenport airport while some people are flying commercial. A total of 40 airplanes are expected of various vintages along with about 100 members. While the group began in the mid-1940, Johannes says the Flying Farmers aren’t all farmers. They all have some interest in farming or own farmland, but come from all walks of life, including doctors and lawyers. One of the Flying Farmers’ keynote speakers is a World War Two flier who was a prisoner of war.
