Governor Tom Vilsack will be on the radio tonight, doing play-by-play of the Iowa Cubs. Vilsack says he studied team statistics last night and is ready for his call. Vilsack says he’ll just say what comes to mind. “Well, it kind of depends what’s happening on the field, you know,” Vilsack told a reporter who asked about tonight’s broadcast. He hasn’t thought about what he’ll say if an Iowa Cub hits a homer. “You know, it’s a spur of the moment,” Vilsack said. “I could probably go back to my childhood and use what Bob Prince did for Pittsburg, which was ‘Kiss it goodbye.’ I could do that. Or ‘Open the door, Aunt Minnie, here is comes.'” Vilsack grew up in Pittsburg and was a Pirates fan. Vilsack owns an autographed Willie Stargell jersey that he intends to be buried in. Tonight’s broadcast will be on KXNO in Des Moines. Vilsack’s wife, Christie, arranged with the owner of the Iowa Cubs to have her husband do the play-by-play broadcast as an early Christmas present to her husband.
