Central Iowa law enforcement’s gearing up for the Iowa State Fair. The name of the project says it all — “Drive Safely to and from the Iowa State Fair.” The Central Iowa Traffic Safety task Force will focus law-enforcement on the routes to the fairgrounds on Des Moines’ east side, with not only local police but also Polk County Sheriff’s deputies, state troopers, and D-O-T Enforcement Officers. The special event’s Friday from seven until noon and Saturday night, from eight p.m. until two in the morning. They’ll patrol main highways and streets leading to the fair, to remind motorists to be patient during the inevitable slowdowns and also to buckle up, obey traffic laws, and take it easy in the beer tent before heading out to the parking lot to head home.
