Waterloo Water Works officials are concerned that some Black Hawk County infants may have consumed contaminated drinking water. Officials say test results of water samples taken from a well show high levels of nitrate that could pose a serious health risk for infants less than six months old. Officials say the well, located between Waterloo and Washburn ran for seven days between August 5th and August 12th with the high nitrate levels. The well was placed on inactive status by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Wednesday after the test results came in. The well provides water to parts of Waterloo, Elk Run Heights, Hudson, Raymond and Washburn. Officials say any infant who drank the contaminated water could become seriously ill and if untreated, may die.
