A new college sports season is ushering a new era at a school in Clinton which is adapting to a new name. The Franciscan University was purchased earlier this year and the name was changed to Ashford University. Meg Schebler is the school’s athletic director and says while the name has changed the goals of the institution remain the same. Schebler says there are a lot of details to work out with a name change. It is not the first time they have been through this, just a few years ago the school was known as Mount St. Clare College. She says they had to get new uniforms and new decals for the gym floor. Schebler had doubled as the women’s basketball coach and had a successful seven year run. She resigned at the end of last season to focus on her administrative duties. She says it was difficult during the basketball season, so she felt with the transition it was a good time to hang up her coaches whistle.Ashford University offers 13-sports and competes at the NAIA level as a member of the Midwest Classic Conference.
