Teams in southeast Iowa are continuing the search for a missing swimmer by scanning the water and the Louisa County shoreline in the area where the Iowa River meets the Mississippi. Mick Klemesrud, spokesman for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says the man is presumed to have drowned. The body of the New Boston, Illinois, man has not been found. Dragging ended at 8 o’clock last night and the divers were called back at 6 P.M. Cadaver dogs were put into action at 8 this morning. Klemesrud says the 21-year-old man, who’s name has not been released, vanished while swimming with friends on Monday afternoon. He says the man was wading with friends near an island in the river when he stepped into a deep-water drop off and was swept away. Klemesrud says it’s confounding how many people have drowned in Iowa this year. If this suspected drowning is confirmed, it’ll be number 26 — a record by a long ways. Klemesrud says the previous record was 18 drownings in a year.
