As the Buena Vista football team prepares for the upcoming season coach Steve Osterberger says the players have thought about what could have been in 2004. With two weeks left in the season the Beavers were 5-1 in the Iowa Conference and needed just one victory to lock up at least a share of the title. Losses to Central and Coe spoiled their championship hopes and Wartburg and Coe ended up as co-champions. He says they came up with the motto of “unfinished business.” At 6-4 overall it still ended up being a successful season but Osterberger says the players feel like they let a championship slip away and that has been good motivation.15 starters are gone from last year and Osterberger has several holes to fill, including the quarterback spot. The Beavers open the season next Saturday at home against Bethel of Minnesota.
