While high gas prices are a major aggravation for most of us, some Iowa tourist spots are discovering a positive side to the situation. Keith Rahe is one of the managers of the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville. Rahe says many people are avoiding the frequent fill-ups by visiting destinations closer to home.Rahe says “Regionally, I think people are staying more in the Midwest to travel and I think that has a lot to do with it also.” He says the baseball field carved from a cornfield, made famous in the 1989 film, has been drawing visitors from around the world this summer. The surge in business reminds Rahe of the “good old days,” shortly after the movie came out. He says “The 1990s, late 1990s, was the busiest time for the field, since then we’ve seen a pretty steep decrease, but this year we’ve seen a pretty sharp rise back upwards.”
