Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says while the Hawkeyes enter the season with a number of question marks it is time to play a game. The Hawks are ranked tenth in the pre-season coaches poll and open the season at home against Illinois State. Ferentz says he’s not sure right now what they’re good at, as he says things have been inconsistent. He says they need to pull things together this week to get ready, and he says a lot of coaches probably feel that way. Ball State was 2-9 a year ago but Ferentz says each season Mid-American Conference teams post shocking upsets and they are taking nothing for granted.Ferentz says Ball State played its best football at the end of the season last year. He says that’s probably something they built on from last year and he says they come into Iowa City with a chance to do something big. Ferentz says the players are anxious for a game, as he says after awhile it’s time to go out and play a game. Ferentz says two of the members of last years highly ranked recruiting class will see action right away, Tony Moeaki at tight end and Shonn Greene at running back. He says they’re down the depth chart out of the two-deep, but he says they anticipate playing more than two guys at those positions. After being short of running backs last season because of injury there are a large number vying for playing time. Ferentz says this first game could help shape the depth chart. He says the picture gets clearer as you see guys play in games.
