Authorities in western Iowa say an Oakland teen who died earlier this month in a rollover accident, had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system. Recently released autopsy results indicate 18-year old Jason Hagen had a blood alcohol level of Zero-point One-Five-Seven when he lost control of the vehicle he was driving north of Carson, in Pottawattamie County, during the early morning hours of August Seventh. Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker says Hagen and 17-year old Kelly Eckhart, of Boone, left a friend’s home in Carson at around three-a.m. that Sunday morning, following a night out at a rodeo and dance. Less than 15-minutes later, when Hagen lost control of the car on a gravel road, the vehicle rolled, and Hagen was partially ejected. A portion of the vehicle came to rest on Hagen’s chest. The autopsy showed the teen died of suffocation. Eckhart suffered minor injuries during the crash. Officials are still trying to determine how the teens obtained the alcohol that contributed to the cause of the crash.
