There were two accidents on Iowa’s “east coast” this weekend. A 45-year-old Missouri man has been charged with a hit-and-run on the Mississippi near Fort Madison. Authorities say late Saturday, Michael J. Allen of Linn Creek, Missouri, was going way too fast when he pulled into a marina and smacked into another boat. Allen got out of his boat with a large bag, and jumped aboard a bass boat driven by two other men. Allen turned himself in on Sunday. He’s been charged with speeding and distance violations, failure to offer assistance and aid after the boat crash and operating a boat in an unsafe manner. No word on what was in that big bag Allen carted away. A 28-year-old Illinois man drowned in the Mississippi River near Sabula this weekend. He was hanging out on a sand bar in the river with friends when he went swimming in the river. His friends saw him go under and never resurface.
