Iowa’s recorded the year’s first death from West Nile Virus. The Public Health Department’s saying only that the victim, who died in August, was an elderly resident of Dickinson County. The Department of Public Health also announced two other confirmed cases of the disease in Iowans now recovering from it: one a Clinton County man and the other an elderly man from Crawford County. This makes six Iowans in all diagnosed this summer with the mosquito-borne disease, though health officials remind us the peak season for the strain of bug that carries it is right now, and for a few more weeks.
