The pop-metal band Bon Jovi will open its next “world tour” in Des Moines, Iowa on November 2nd. The band announced its tour dates yesterday (Wednesday) and the new Iowa Events Center is listed as the tour’s first stop. Holly Kjeldgaard is the assistant general manager and director of marketing for the Events Center. “We’re very excited about it,” she says. “We’ve been working on it for a long, long time.” She says Global Spectrum, the agency hired to book acts for the Events Center, has built a relationship with the group over the years. Another venue managed by Global Spectrum will host a Bon Jovi tour date. Bon Jovi, a five-member band headed by Jon Bon Jovi, is known for its “power ballads” like “Shot Through the Heart”. Bon Jovi released its first album in 1984 and it contained the band’s first hit “Runaway.” The band’s third album — “Slippery When Wet” — ushered in a “pop metal” genre in music and contained hit after hit, including “Wanted: Dead or Alive.” Bon Jovi’s new album — “Have a Nice Day” — will be released nationwide on September 20th. Kjeldgaard says ticket-buying information for Bon Jovi’s November 2nd concert in Des Moines will be released on Monday, September 19th.”I think this is a very exciting and unique band because it crosses across a lot of genres and a lot of age categories,” she says. “It’s just a very unique group that appeals to the masses.” Bon Jovi opens its tour in the Midwest with stops in Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Minneapolis, Madison and Detroit in the two weeks after its opening in Des Moines.
