The cause of a northeast Iowa fire last week is not yet known, but the woman in the home credits her cat with helping her escape the fire. Linda Froning says she was sleeping on the couch of her Nora Springs home last Thursday when her cat jumped on the top of her. She awoke to a house full of smoke. Froning called her son, a volunteer fireman, and then escaped the home. Her couch burst into flames a short time later. Her son was able to pull the couch out of the house and into the front yard. The home sustained smoke damage and some fire damage to the family room. Froning was taken to an area hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
