Fayette County authorities are still looking for an Elgin man after a massive search effort following a chase Tuesday failed to snare him. The incident began at about 3:45 a-m when a Fayette County deputy tried to stop a car on an equipment violation at the intersection of Highway 56 and a county road between Elgin and Fayette. The driver, later identified as 32-year-old Donald Reierson, refused to stop. He led deputies on a high-speed chase down a country road, through a bean field and two cornfields before crashing into a tree in a wooded area east of Fayette. Reierson and his unidentified passenger then fled on foot. Authorities searched the area and brought in a dog, geo-thermal imaging equipment and an Army National Guard helicopter. The search was called off after about four hours. Warrants will be issued for Reierson and his passenger.
