Two hunters were injured in the second weekend of the pheasant season. A 40-year-old Missouri hunter was shot by a hunting partner Friday after flushing a bird in Cass County near Wiota. The D-N-R says Sammy Burks of Joplin Missouri was taken to the hospital in Atlantic and later airlifted to Omaha after several pellets hit him between his knees and head. A Des Moines man was injured by a blast from his own gun Sunday. The D-N-R says 35-year-old Jeff Fox was apparently accidentally hit in the left forearm while hunting north of Baxter. Fox was taken to a hospital in Newton and was later airlifted to a hospital in Iowa City. So far less than one-dozen hunters have been injured in Iowa’s most popular hunting season. The D-N-R reported that seven hunters were injured, none seriously, during the opening weekend.
