Authorities say Shenandoah Mayor Gregg Connell, one of the Democrats who’s running for governor, apparently ran a stop sign yesterday (Tuesday) and killed another driver.

Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker says the accident happened just before three o’clock Tuesday afternoon. Danker says investigating officers determined Connell was southbound on a county road, approaching Highway 92, when he failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a car going westbound on the highway.

The driver of that car was 51-year-old David Juhl of Atlantic. Juhl was taken to the hospital in Atlantic where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff says Connell was treated and released from the Montgomery County hospital, where he was treated and released.

“We have issued a citation for the stop sign violation there to Mr. Connell,” Danker says. The sheriff says his deputies continue to investigate and more charges may be filed. Juhl, the man who died in the crash, was driving a Mercury Tracer, and Connell was driving a Jeep Cherokee.
