Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez would prefer the attention not be on him this weekend when his Badgers host the Iowa Hawkeyes. At the end of the season Alvarez is retiring to become full-time athletic director and this will mark his final home game as coach.

He says they’ve celebrated the seniors for 16 years and he says he doesn’t want to take anything away from them. Alvarez says it will be a special game, but he’s going to try and take it like a normal game and then sit back at the end of the season and reflect on what’s happened in the 16 years.

Wisconsin is coming off a loss at Penn State and will host an Iowa team that has suffered a pair of heartbreaking losses to drop to 5-4 on the season. He says Iowa is still a very good football team despite the losses.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz spent eight years with Alvarez on Hayden Fry’s staff and says while it is his last home game it is not the end of the line. Ferentz says he’s not going to make a big deal out of it as they have two more games left, so he says there won’t be any “Kodak moments” out there. He says it will be a special day for Alvarez after a great career.
