A southeast Iowa woman says she found a turtle in her coffee. Marge Morris of Ainsworth claims the two-inch long dead reptile was in a bag of Folgers Classic Roast. Morris says she started digging around in the coffee grounds after tasting a few sips of her home brew, thinking it tasted bitter.
Morris says “It seemed like a hard spot in there, something like a rock or something. I thought I’ve got to find out what it is. So, I poured it out and that’s when I found Mr. Turtle.” She called the company and was told the coffee was likely packaged in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. The plant reopened September 18th and it makes more than half of Folgers’ products.
Morris says she won’t sue Folgers but she but has changed what she drinks in the morning. She says, laughing, “Today I have some tea. It’s safer because it’s in a bag.” While Morris threw out the package of coffee, she’s storing Mr. Turtle in a Tupperware container in her freezer as a keepsake.
