Iowa State’s Brent Curvey has been named the Big-12 defensive player of the week. Curvey had a sack and returned an interception 66 yards for a touchdown in the waning moments of a 30-16 victory over Colorado.

I-S-U coach Dan McCarney says it was a hard tough game between two teams with a lot on the line. The Cyclones have this week off before wrapping up the regular season at Kansas. The Jayhawks were crushed at Texas this past weekend and gave up 52 points in the opening half. McCarney says they’ll evaluate the Texas game, but he says Texas has dominated so many teams, that they’ll look harder at the other games.

Curvey’s interception thwarted Colorado’s bid for a game tying touchdown. He says he knew they had to step it up and do what they had to do to stop the Buffaloes.
The victory means I-S-U could still earn a trip to the Big-12 championship game. Curvey says they need some things to go their way, but they just have to keep playing. The Cyclones are 7-3.
