A Denison man is accused of assaulting and injuring a sheriff’s deputy during an altercation last week at Crawford County Memorial Hospital. Forty-five-year-old Jeffrey Scott Meyer was formally charged with disarming a peace officer of a dangerous weapon, assault on a peace officer and interfering with official acts in trial information filed yesterday in Crawford County District Court by County Attorney Tom Gustafson.

The charges stem from an incident last Wednesday in which Meyer reportedly became irate while in the presence of Lt. Todd Stater and Judge William Ranniger as he was being brought in for a court ordered committal. During the course of the altercation, Meyer is accused of removing a handgun from Stater’s possession while alledgedly threatening to kill him.

Stater suffered a severe wound to his hand during the altercation, which required stitches. Meyer was placed under arrest and taken to the Crawford County Jail where he’s currently being held on 25-thousand dollars bond. Meyer is scheduled to be arraigned on December 5th.
