A man who wants to be the next congressman for Iowa’s first district is taking aim at Republican Jim Nussle in Davenport. Democrat Bill Gluba read Christmas stories to some kids at a HeadStart preschool class. Then he blasted Congressman Nussle for appearing with some kids at another HeadStart class a couple weeks ago.

Gluba charges that Nussle was “Basically using them for photo-ops, which is fine if you support kids.” He charges that Nussle’s champion for a budget that would cut fifty-billion dollars from programs that affect the well-being of children, saying that’s immoral and wrong.

Nussle is running for Iowa Governor, but Gluba says even though they’re not running against each other, he’s calling on Nussle, and on Congress, to restore the proposed cuts in children’s programs.

Gluba says Iowa Congressman Jim Leach voted against Nussle’s bill, which leads the charge, he says, against the very kids he came to have photo-ops with. A Quad Cities real-estate agent, Democrat Gluba served one term as a state representative and two as a state senator.
