Voters in Fort Dodge approved a plan Tuesday to restart an old hydroelectric dam. By a vote of 11-hundred-4 in favor and 289 voting no, roughly 80-to-20 percent, Fort Dodge voters accepted the plan to borrow nearly seven-million dollars to pay for restoration of the dam as an electrical generator. The dam was built in 1916 and the last time it was used to generate power was in 1971. Electricity from the dam would power the city’s municipal building, the library, water pumps, downtown streetlights and the waste water treatment plant. It may be in service by 2008.
