Iowa coach Steve Alford says Freshman Tony Freeman will replace injured point guard Jeff Horner when the Hawkeyes visit Iowa State tomorrow night in college basketball action.

Horner suffered a partially torn ligament in his left knee during the final moments of regulation in Tuesday’s overtime loss at U-N-I. Horner is expected to be out two to five weeks.

Alford says it’s fortunate that it’s not an A-C-L tear and he says it will also boost the confidence of the team to know that Horner will be coming back. He says they’re deep enough to play through the injury problem. Alford says if Horner is going to be out of action this is the best time of the season for that to happen, as they don’t have a lot of games now until the first of the year. T

he Big Ten is four weeks away and Alford says they want to be sure that Horner is 100 percent before they bring him back. Alford says while Horner does not want to miss any games he could see a sense of relief that it wasn’t worse. He says Horner felt like it might have been a worse knee injury and seemed very relieved that he can re-hab the injury and get back.

Friday nights game will be the first one the senior from Mason City has missed since his Iowa career began.
