Authorities have released the names of the people involved in a plane crash last night (Tuesday) at the Algona Municipal Airport. Kossuth County Sheriff Paul Gronbach says the pilot is identified as 47-year-old Timothy Allen Youngwirth of Bancroft, and the passenger is identified as his wife 45-year-old Elizibeth. Sheriff Gronbach says the crash occurred on take off in thick fog, the hourly condition report from the National Weather Service indicated visibility in the area was a 12th of a mile at the time.

Youngwirth had flown back from Mason City after dropping someone off and had picked up his wife, and they had planned to fly around and look at Christmas lights. Youngwirth says the sky had been clear for his previous flight, the couple ran into a wall of fog when trying to take off and they ended up 200 yards north of the west runway of the airport.

The plane flipped over, its back tail broke off and their was front end damage, the Youngwirths were able to free themselves and call for help, they were transported to Kossuth Regional Health Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The Kossuth County Sheriff`s office protected the wreckage until the Federal Aviation Administration arrived to begin an investigation.
