Wartburg College did not have to look far for a new football coach. The school promoted offensive coordinator Eric Koehler to replace Rick Willis, who resigned to become to become the full-time athletic director. Koehler says it’s a great opportunity at a really good place.

Koehler joined the Wartburg staff back in 2002 and said it was his dream to one day become a head coach. He says Wartburg has been successful for a long time and he says he believed if he came and did a good job as an assistant he could get a head job at a division three school.

Koehler feels Wartburg’s desire to maintain some stability helped him get the job. He says the continuity should help with the staff and players and help them continue the success they’ve had. Koehler hopes to make the transition a smooth one. He says the number one goal is to get the players and staff excited about him as the new coach. Koehler plans to keep his role as offensive coordinator.
