It’s been mostly gray days for Iowans at the end of 2005 and into the New Year — but a National Weather Service forecaster says things could brighten a bit this weekend. Frank Boksa says finding sunlight in Iowa hasn’t been easy. Boksa says it depends on where you live, but the northeast hasn’t seen any sun in the last two-and-a-half to three weeks, while he says southeast Iowa did see partial sunlight for a few days in the last two or three weeks. Boksa commiserates with those who’d like more sunlight — saying the change from night to day recently has been simply gray and then a lighter shade of gray. He says, “It’s not typical, but it’s also not unusual for this time of year.” Boksa says low-level clouds and moisture just keep hanging over Iowa. He says, “There’s no big weather systems moving in to scour that stuff out.” Boksa says they expect to see some high pressure systems moving in over the next few days to at least push some of the low clouds out. Boksa says if you really want sunlight — head west. And he says you don’t have to go all the way to California, just as far as the Missouri River.Boksa says on the Iowa side of the Missouri it’s cloudy, but he says if you drive about 10 miles west of the river there are clear skies. So, Boksa says you can visit Nebraska to get a little sunlight to recharge your winter batteries.
