A Guthrie County remains was hospitalized after crashing an A-T-V while fleeing a state trooper. The Iowa State Patrol says 30-year old Scotty Olesen of Bayard, was thrown from the all-terrain-vehicle when it hit a rock pile and rolled.

The patrol says a trooper responding to a complaint of an A-T-V being driven recklessly around Bayard, spotted Olesen’s A-T-V and was attempting to stop him, when the man took-off on the machine and drove across an empty lot near the town’s grain elevator and struck the rock pile in the elevator’s parking lot. The incident occurred at around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials say Olesen was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, where he was reported to be in critical condition, and in intensive care.
