A Western Iowa man is in the hospital today and another man’s jailed for attempted murder. Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker says the incident began with a 911 call about a car-pedestrian accident. The sheriff says at about 2:30 Tuesday, they got a call that someone had been run over in Oakland, in front of an auto parts store.

When deputies arrived, they found 34-year old Marshall DeShong of Oakland lying on the ground with his feet partially under a blue and grey Ford pickup. Danker says the rescue crew took DeShong to a hospital in Council Bluffs, where he was in critical condition. The driver of the pickup was identified as 43-year old Wayne Konfrst of Oakland.

Danker says the men were no strangers to each other. He says apparently the two men had had some altercations in the past. Confrst claimed DeShong was standing along the side of the road waving a knife at him, and that he “accidentally” ran him over. Danker says there are no witnesses to substantiate Konfrst’s allegation that DeShong had threatened him. Konfrst later admitted to deputies that he intentionally ran the man over with his vehicle. Konfrst was arrested for attempted murder and taken to the Pottawattamie County jail.
