The career of a bank robber was a very short one this (Wednesday) morning. After a man held up the Hills Bank in the small town 5 miles south of Iowa City, Johnson County deputies responded to the call and Iowa City Sergeant Doug Hart says police came to help too. They were about a mile south of Iowa City putting pointed “stop sticks” onto the road to puncture tires and stop the getaway vehicle, when the suspect turned off the road before that, eastbound onto a dead-end street.
He says when the man discovered the road ended, he took off on foot but they caught up and arrested him without further incident.

The sergeant says all the officers like it when their calls end that way, without a lot of trouble. “It’s great when they end that way,” he says, adding praise for the cooperation between the Johnson County deputies, Iowa City Police and State Patrol, as the three agencies worked together to catch the robbery suspect. The Johnson County Sheriff’s office will release the name of the suspect later, as the whole case began around 9 A.M.
