The Republicans and Democrats who’re running for governor released financial statements today showing that in the past year, the leading candidates raised over five-million dollars among them. Republican Congressman Jim Nussle raised the most in the past year — two-and-a-half million. Nussle has over one-and-a-half million dollars in cash in the bank. His G-O-P opponent, Sioux City business consultant Bob Vander Plaats, raised 650-thousand and has about 450-thousand dollars cash.

On the Democratic side, Secretary of State Chet Culver raised over one-point-one million, and has about 830-thousand dollars cash on hand. Mike Blouin, the former state economic development director, has raised over half a million, and has just over 360-thousand dollars in the bank. Secretary of Agriculture Patty Judge raised about 130-thousand and loaned her campaign 53-thousand. Representative Ed Fallon of Des Moines raised 110-thousand dollars last year and has about 41-thousand in cash in the bank.
