The Monona County Sheriff’s office is putting out a warning about several recent mail and credit card scams surfacing in western Iowa. In one instance, residents have reported receiving letters indicating they’ve won a large amount of money and will receive the money once they provide bank account information.

Another individual reported receiving a check with instructions to deposit it and send a portion of the money back to the company with their bank account information. Another person reported receiving a phone call from someone who had their credit card information, including the card number and their address.

Sheriff’s authorities say the person reportedly became suspicious when the caller asked for their card identification number. Once the citizen began asking questions, the caller quickly hung up. Anyone who reports receiving such an inquiry is asked to call the Monona County Sheriff’s office or their local police department.
