These are happy times for the Iowa Wesleyan women’s basketball team. The Tigers entered the national rankings for the first time this week and wrapped up the Midwest Classic Conference title last night after posting a 74-66 win over St. Ambrose. It was their 21st victory of the season, a school record.

Iowa Wesleyan coach Steve Williamson says no one would’ve thought they’d be in this position. But Williamson says they’ve prepared and played hard in every game.

The program has gone from conference doormat to league champion. He says a lot of the credit goes to the players as he says they fought through some tough times when they didn’t have many wins.

The Tigers will have home court advantage for the MCC Tournament and will close out the regular season at home Saturday against a Waldorf team that handed them their lone conference setback. He says it will be a game to see where they are at and if they made the right adjustments. Williamson says they’re undefeated at home, which is something they have going for them. Iowa Wesleyan is 21-7 on the season.
