Authorities in Western Iowa say the remains of an infant found in Audubon County late last year are those of a full-term baby boy. Audubon County Sheriff Todd Johnson says D-N-A extracted from the skeleton by the State D-C-I lab in Ankeny revealed the child’s gender. Earlier forensic tests by an anthropologist working for the State Medical Examiner’s office placed the developmental age of the human skeleton as being from birth to one-month of age.

The unclothed baby’s remains were discovered by trappers checking their lines in southwest Audubon County, on November eighth. Authorities believe the isolated location, four miles southeast of Kimballton, was deliberately selected by whoever abandoned the remains. Investigators hope someone will come forward to help identify the baby boy. A local church has offered to conduct services for the infant, when the investigation concludes.
