A north-central Iowa woman is a double-winner at the Iowa Lottery, but her story has a very unusual twist. Lottery spokeswoman Tina Potthoff says the woman’s winning streak started when she entered a Lottery-sponsored contest last year. Sixty-nine-year-old Alice Hayes of Webster City designed a scratch-off game in the “Design a Game from Scratch” competition last May. She created the “Dream’n of Dollars” ticket which just came out two weeks ago. Hayes won three-thousand dollars in the contest for her artwork.

But the story doesn’t end there. Potthoff says on a whim, Hayes went out and bought one of the tickets a few days ago that she designed. She won one of the top prizes in the contest — 12-thousand dollars. She’s coming to Des Moines today to claim her winnings. Potthoff says Hayes is ecstatic.

The Dream’n of Dollars ticket features a couple tucked in bed with just the tops of their heads peeking out from under the covers. Above them are scenes from their happy dreams of winnings. Players play by scratching off alarm clocks. Players that find a “Z” win the prize shown below that symbol, while a “Z-Z” means a double-prize. Hayes is a lab assistant at Electrolux in Webster City and says she came up with the idea for her game as bedtime approached one night.
