The Iowa Civil Air Patrol is holding recruiting meetings around the state to try and bolster its ranks. Major Doug Jansen says they have more to do than ever have before, and they need more people to do the work. One reason for the increased workload is with more Iowa National Guard soldiers on active duty, the Civil Air Patrol is being called out to help in search-and-rescue missions. Jansen says you don’t have to be a pilot to join. Less than one-quarter of the officers are pilots. He says they have navigators, radio operators and people who mentor youth. Jansen says there are just a few qualifications. You must be an adult and willing to give some time during an emergency on short notice. There’s a meeting today at the Ankeny Regional Airport at two p.m. There are also meetings Wednesday at the airports in Fort Dodge and Red Oak at six p.m. Jansen says to find out more you can surf to www.joiniowacap.org, or call him at 515-291-9625.- – – –
