It was a stunning exit from the NCAA Tournament for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Jermaine Williams tossed in a desperation three from the left corner to beat the buzzer as Northwestern State of Louisiana ousted the Hawkeyes 64-63 in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Williams basket capped a huge rally for the Demons who trailed the Hawkeyes by 17 points with just over eight minutes to play and came just seconds after Iowa’s Greg Brunner missed a free throw that would have given the Hawks a three point lead. The Hawks close the season with a record of 25-9 and say goodbye to a senior class that played a huge role.

While most of the attention will be on the final shot Alford says the difference was too many Northwestern State offensive rebounds and too many Iowa turnovers.
